It seems like I can't listen to the radio or read any news today without hearing about all of the "anti-war protests" scheduled for this weekend (see here, and here for a small sample). Most of the stories mention that major Hollywood celebrities are supporting these protests. Given the record of those on the "Left Coast", I am inclined to believe that anything they support is something that I should oppose. Now, I don't really take positions on issues just so that I can disagree with the leftists in Hollywood, but it is a pretty good start.
Wow, it has been a long time since I have posted anything. To my loyal readers, I must apologize (Mom & Dad, I'm sorry). I will try to do better in the future.

One of the things I do at my day job in order to make my life a bit more exciting is to locate news items that are a bit provocative and send them to a few coworkers for comment. Since we often disagree, this is usually good for a few laughs and stimulates the little grey cells a bit. This morning, I sent this:

Think about this:
a. The number of physicians in the US is 700,000.
b. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year is 120,000.
c. Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
(US Dept. of Health & Human Services)

Then think about this:
a. The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000.
b. The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) is 1,500.
c. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188.

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets out of hand.
As a public health measure I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear that the shock could cause people to seek medical attention

As expected, I received a few responses similar to "This rocks!" or "That's NRA propaganda!" depending on the reader's point of view. One response went this way: "For some reason, I have this urge to find out how many "non-accidental" deaths doctors cause, and how many guns cause. Hmmm....I wonder...."

I responded that over 42 million unborn children have been slaughtered in the past 30 years, by doctors. Interestingly, the debate ended. There is something about this subject that intimidates people who are usually willing to discuss issues.
